The
title must be short and describe the project in a way that is understandable
to persons not expert in the field.
Grants from the Meltzer foundation
are awarded to particularly gifted students at the University of Bergen.
Particularly
gifted students at other universities and specialised university colleges
in Norway can also apply for grants from the foundation. These are: the University
of Oslo, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), the University
of Tromsø including the Norwegian College of Fishery Science, the
Oslo School of Architecture and Design, the Norwegian School of Economics
and Business Administration (NHH), the Norwegian School of Sports Science,
the Norwegian University of Life Sciences, the Norwegian Academy of Music
and the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science. Students from other university
colleges than the ones listed above are not eligible.
Grants are awarded as support
for academic projects confirmed by an academic supervisor, primarily to students
at Master’s degree level, students at the corresponding level of a
programme of professional study and candidates at doctoral degree level.
Grants can also be awarded to Bachelor students if the application is connected
to a research project/assignment and this is confirmed by an academic supervisor.
NOTE in particular that
research fellows who have been admitted to a doctoral programme at the University
of Bergen must be registered as having been admitted to this programme in
the National Student Database (FS) in order for their applications to be
considered.
Applicants must have taken exams at university/university
college level worth a total of at least 120 credits.
Students who are studying
for a period of up to one year away from their ‘mother institution’,
either through an exchange agreement or in order to specialise in subjects/courses,
may apply.
Grants are normally awarded
for one calendar year, and the applicant should be a student for the whole
year. Applicants who complete their studies in the spring semester will therefore
not normally be able to compete for grants.
Provide a description of
the project, including the academic grounds for the project, how the project
fits in with the doctoral or Master’s degree programme (or other study
programmes). No more than 1,000 words.
5. Financial
conditions – which expenses can be covered?
For
students and research fellows at other universities who receive a grant from
the foundation, the project grant will be transferred to their own bank accounts.
Research fellows and students at the University of Bergen
do not have to provide their bank account number, as their grants are paid
into a project account at the university.
8. Enclosures
The deadline for forwarding results from exams taken in
the current semester is 18 January 2011.
Submission of applications
Remember to submit the application to the foundation’s application system once it is completed, no later than 1 December 2009 by 13.00.

The foundation is not responsible for any data lost due to failure to save
